Welcome to USA U19 Women Rally Campaign
What is floorball?
Floorball is fun, fast, safe and inexpensive, requiring only a stick, sneakers, shorts and a t-shirt to play. Teams consist of up to 20 players, with five field players and a goalie on the court at a time in official matches. A floorball goalie wears light padding and a mask but does not have a stick.
The game can be easily picked up by beginners; yet, it holds great potential for development of stick and ball handling, passing and shooting skills.
Floorball is ideal for coed and mixed age groups due to the emphasis on speed, skill and technique over physical strength. Injuries are not much of a factor because the stick is made of a lightweight (carbon or other type) fiber with a plastic blade and the ball is a plastic ball. Body and stick checking are not permitted and playing of the ball above the knee is illegal. Floorball is a recognized IOC sport, Special Olympic Sport, and the USA Men competed in the World Games Summer of 2017.
Having qualified for the World Championships, our goal is to field a team of players from around the US and Internationally to compete in the World Floorball Championships in May 2018 in Switzerland. Our main goal for the tournament is to place in the top 10.
Why We're Raising Funds
The money raised will help players in their training, travel, and preparation for the WFC, but will also help players bring their experience back home to help other girls, and women get active and engaged in Floorball in their communities.
How We Got Here
The U19 Women's Team was founded in 2013. In 2015 USA U19 Women debuted its first match. The U19 Women qualified for the 2016 WFC in Canada placing 11th. In 2017 the team qualified for the 2018 WFC over Team Canada.
Our biggest challenge has been educating and transitioning players from other sports to play Floorball. In the US Floorball is largely a grassroots movement and is growing in locations like Washington State, California, Texas, Utah, Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Carolina, etc. Another challenge has been finding women to play. Currently the opportunities for women to play team sports is limited as compared to men. This makes it a challenge to find players, but then to bring players from across the US to train is tough. More recently Floorball is starting to gain some more attention across the US, and as part of our mission we're working to create more opportunities for Women in sports, specifically at younger ages.
USA U19 Women's Team
A team is nothing without the selfless and in many times unrecognized work and support of people behind the scenes. We want to recognize the work done by the General Manager Anders Buvarp who has been an integral part of the team over the years. We are excited to announce two co-coaches from the US, David Crawford (WA), and Patrick Jesue (MI) who will be coaching the team during the tournament. Both David and Patrick are active in developing Floorball in their communities and are excited to have the opportunities to represent the USA as coaches at the WFC.
Join Team USA and Spread the Word!
There's a lot that goes into building a team and getting prepared for a major international tournament. The admin staff and players put in a lot of effort to train, prepare, and fundraise for this unique opportunity. To have the opporunity as a player or coach to represent your country is a unique and special thing. We couldn't do this without your support. The entire USA U19 Women's Team thanks you for your support. Please join us in supporting this campaign and sharing this Rally via social media, email, or person to person. Every little bit helps.
